The Department of General Technical Sciences and Vocational Training was created in 1972 on the basis of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. The first head of the Department was Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor M. Kobozev. Later, the position of the head was occupied by Candidates of Technical Sciences, Associate Professors: M. Rodionov, Ya. Zverhovsky, M. Kyselov, O. Skornіakov, O. Kuchma. From 2004 to 2014 the Department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor I. Antonenko. The Department was rebuilt in 2014. Since 2015, the Head of the Department of General Technical Sciences and Vocational Training is Lavrentieva О., Doctor of Pedagogic Sciences, Associate Professor.

From 2007 to 2014 academic staff of the department worked on a complex theme: “Development of control forms of knowledge of students of general technical disciplines in accordance with the credit-modular system of training of teachers of labor training”. From 2015 to 2019 academics work on the theme: “Formation of professional culture of future teacher in the process of studying general technical disciplines”. On November 20-21, 2017, the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Professional Pedagogy and Andragogy: Professional Issues and Innovations” was held at the Kryvyi Rih State Pedagogical University. Since 2018, the department has been training specialists at the third (educational-scientific) level in the specialty 015 Vocational Education (Computer Technology).
